The best gift I ever received also happens to be the best gift I ever gave. It all happened just 3 years ago. This past week we celebrated Mr. Destructo's 3rd birthday. Just a week before Christmas, he was the best Christmas gift I ever received. A little 6 pound 14 ounce present. Daddy was deployed out to sea at the time and wasn't able to be there in person, but he was able to be there on the phone. For months I worried about going through labor without him. Of course I had my mom, but I really wished I had had my husband. I sent him an email just as we were leaving for the hospital. Not long after I arrived the phone was already ringing and it was hubby calling all the way from Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, half-way across the world! He called every so often to check in on us. I instructed him to call me back again at 11am. 11 am came and no phone call. I was starting to push and Mr. Destructo was on his way out and still no phone call. At 11:14 he finally called and I was screaming. I had no pain meds and was undrugged (something I am personally very proud of). My husband was on the phone with me the moment Mr. Destructo entered the world. He heard is first cries and all. The best gift I ever received also happened to be the best gift I ever gave my husband, his first born son. My little Christmas baby is now a smart, talkative, funny 3 year old!

Another of the greatest gifts I ever received happened to be for my birthday last year. Blue Eyes had his cranial surgery on January 8th, just 3 days before my birthday. (If you would like to watch the video explaining this more click this link. It contains graphic images.) I knew we would still be in the hospital over my birthday and honestly I was a little sad about that. Who wants to see their little 10 month old in pain on their birthday? Not me that's for sure. On January 11th, 2010, my 23rd birthday, we were given the great news that little Blue Eyes would be discharged from the hospital the next day! It was the best news we had received all week! That night my mom came to stay at the hospital so I could go home and get some sleep before he came home and needed a lot more of me to care for him. He also opened one eye for the first time in days that day. While it was not where I wanted to celebrate my birthday, I was very thankful for the gift the doctors gave me by giving us such great news!

So those are the best gifts I ever received. What's your best gift ever?

SWAGG has also partnered up with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C). For every download of their app between now and December 31st, they will donate $1 to SU2C up to $125,000! Seems like a great cause to me!

Heart of Haiti

Have you heard of Heart of Haiti collection on Macy's yet? Instead of providing one time aid they help the people of Haiti by crating jobs for them.

Haitian artisans make this items, they earn an income and then we can purchase thier beautiful work! It's all made from recycled materials and it seems like a great program!

Check out the Heart of Haiti collection at to see some of the beautiful things they have created!

I am writing this post to spread the word about Heart of Haiti through a Mom Bloggers Club member program and I will receive a Heart of Haiti pendant as a thank you.

Hershey's Pot of Gold

Did you  know more than 70 percent of adult give or receive boxes of chocolate during the holiday season? I can say I am one of those who give chocolate. I always get my hubby chocolate at the holidays (I think it's more for me, shhh, don't tell him!) My favorites are the cream filled ones!

I think I might get the Pot of Gold truffles for him this year! They look delicious!

Check out the Celebrate with Hershey's website. There you can find recipes, gift tags, crafts and other items.

I am writing this post as an entry into a contest for a Hershey’s Pot of Gold prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.

Cottonelle Fresh Wipes!

Warning: This post is about bathroom activities. I promise not to go into to many details. :)

My husband has always preferred the Cottonelle Toilet Paper with Aloe and E since as long as I can remember. It's the only toilet paper he lets me buy, good thing there is usually a good sale and some good coupons to go with it! So when we got the chance to try the Cottonelle Flushable Wipes. I thought it would be great!

Here is some info on them from the companies website:

  • Flushable
  • Break up like toilet paper after flushing
  • Sewer and septic safe
  • Alcohol-free
  • Pop-Up® Tub for single-sheet dispensing
  • Tubs coordinate with bathroom d├ęcor

In specially marked tubs there is an Easy Reach Command Strip hanger so you can hand your tub of wipes right near your TP. I wasn't sure if we would really need it, but then after a close call with the tub nearly falling in the toilet at the hands of a two year old, I decided the hanger was good after all!

I really liked using the wipes for my little boys. Especially when I went to put Blue Eyes in the tub and he had left me a present. Instead of running to get wipes from the other room, the Cottonelle Flushable Wipes were ready and waiting. Mr. Destructo (who is actively potty training) has taken a liking to wiping himself. I like that the wipes are there for him.

My husband is not a big fan of the moist feeling, but I liked them. They aren't soaking wet or super thin. THe have a nice thinckness to them and did the job they were meant to do. The only drawback to them is they are cold!

Would I buy them? Sure! (If I had a coupon of course.)

You should check out Get Fresh with a Friend to read more, send a tub to a friend, get a coupon, and watch funny but awkward videos!

Menu Plan Monday 11/1

Can you believe it's November? WOW! I love the holidays despite how busy they are! We start the craziness with Thanksgiving in November, Mr. Destructo's birthday the week before Christmas and then Christmas in December, New Years, Blue Eye's Cranioversary and my birthday in January, then Hubby's birthday and Blue Eyes birthday in February. By the time it's all over we are at the end of February and exhausted. Hopefully if I can keep up the Menu Planning through all these holidays things will run smoothly.

So let's get to the menu for this week. I must have been in a Taste of Home mood because all the recipes this week come from my favorite magazine.

Monday- Cassoulet for Today.
Tuesday- Steak and New Potato Toss
Wednesday- Chicken Stir Fry
Thursday- Shredded Beef 'n' Slaw Sandwiches (takes 2 3/4 hours to cook, to save time you can cook the beef and shred ahead of time)
Friday- Leftovers
Saturday- Almond Chicken with Apricot Sauce
Sunday- Frozen Dinner Entre (Stouffer's Chicken and Broccoli Bake) If you do ever get one of these Stouffer's Easy Express Meals, I should mention it says cooks in 17 minutes if you microwave it otherwise it's 80 minutes in the oven. Just a little FYI)

So that's the plan! You can get more ideas at

Filtrete Elite Allergen Reduction Filters Rebate

My husband and my kids really suffer from allergies so it's really important that we change our air filters often. You should change them every 2-3 months and let me tell you, my husband is ON IT! I forget about it but not him! He's ready and has a stock pile of filters in the closet. Not only does he stay on it for health reasons but also in order to save us some money. A clogged filter will make the heater/AC have to work harder therefor use more energy costing us more money! (And after a $600 electric bill last winter, we DO NOT want that again!)

Next time we buy filters I think we will try the Filtrete Elite Allergen Reduction filters. Here's what Filtrete has to say about these filters:

  • Captures 94 percent of large airborne particles such as pollen, smoke, dust mite debris and pet dander from the air as it passes through the filter
  • Captures up to 40 times more microscopic particles than ordinary fiberglass filters
  • Helps maintain airflow in heating and cooling systems, which may help prevent stress on the system and reduce the amount of energy needed to warm your home this Fall and Winter
Another reason why we might try these out, I now have a coupon for them! Well a rebate actually. And I can share it with you! (click the image to print it)

Make sure you sign up for the Clear Advantages Program to receive helpful tips, reminders, coupons, and other information.

Here are some cleaning tips for how to get your house really clean courtesy of Filtrete:
Start at the Top:  Ceiling fans, tall mantles and bookshelves, and the tops of door frames tend to subscribe to the “out of sight, out of mind” motto.  These areas often harbor dust, so it’s important to wipe them down regularly to help remove dust buildup.  Start at the top and work your way down, collecting all of the dust and dirt that falls to the floor while you’re cleaning.

Wipe Down Windows and Walls:  Don't clean windows the old fashioned way – newspaper can cause ink residue and paper towels leave lint behind.  Your best bet is to use microfiber cleaning cloths and a professional window squeegee to get a streak-free, spotless shine. To prevent streaks on shower doors and walls, apply lemon oil to the door twice a month.  This will help repel soap scum and shampoo, while also adding a nice shine.

Think Horizontally: Dust mites are nearly everywhere.  In fact, the American Lung Association estimates that roughly four out of five homes in the United States have detectable levels of dust mite allergen in at least one bed.  Reduce dust mites by encasing your mattress and pillows, and wash your bedding in hot water about once a week.  Also, since dust mites are microscopic, place strips of duct tape on the mattress case to prevent the dust mites from sneaking through.

Clean the In-between: While cleaning what you can see, don’t forget to clean what you can’t see – the air you breathe.  Use a high performance air filter in the home, such as the Filtrete 1” Elite Allergen Reduction filter from 3M, to help capture particles such as pollen, smoke, dust mite debris and pet dander from the air that passes through the filter.  Be sure to change your filter at the start of every season, or every three months.

Freeze the Fur:  Stuffed animals can harbor dust mites so it’s important to pay special attention to them.  Place stuffed animals in a large plastic bag and freeze them for four to five hours.  Remove them from the freezer and plastic bag, and use a vacuum with a HEPA filter to remove any leftover dust particles.

Finish With Floors: To keep floors in tip-top shape, vacuum and clean them weekly.  You can easily make your own floor cleaner by adding a few drops of mild liquid dish detergent to a gallon of water. Hot water can break down floor finishes after time so use water that is barely warm.  Finally, don’t forget to clean the floor under large pieces of furniture, which may require you to temporarily move them elsewhere.  Corners of rooms and the back of closets often are overlooked, so be sure to clean these areas as well.

Mmm It's almost candy time!!!

The sales have finally come around for Halloween candy! Yum! My store had Hershey's candy on sale and I may or may not have snagged a bag, or two, or possibly three!

Since my oldest trick or treater can't eat most of the stuff he will get while Trick or Treating, I am going to start a new tradition and both boys will get a little goody bag on their bedroom doors. Some fun crackers, little toys, things like that. Oh and I can't forget the chocolate! That my little man can have! I'm thinking I might share my Reese's with him. I'm not sure if I will give it in the morning or when they get home from trick or treating. But that's my plan. Kinda like "booing" a neighbor, I guess I'm "booing" my boys.

I can't wait! It will be so much fun!

I am writing this post as my entry into a contest for a Hershey’s Halloween prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.

Elmo's Healthy Heroes Review!

We took the boys to see Elmo's Healthy Heroes on Saturday. I think they really enjoyed it! They were both clapping, laughing and dancing to the music! The story is about Super Grover who loses his super powers. Elmo and his Healthy Heroes, Telly, Abby, Zoey and Rocky (Zoe's Rock), team up to teach Grover all about nutrition, hygiene, and exercise.

I think my boys favorite part was when Oscar the Grouch turned Elmo's World into Oscar's World. It was all green and dirty. Still today my 2 year old tells me that Oscar is dirty and needs a bath. I really think he learned a thing or two from this show. He wants to brush his hair like Bert and take a bath like Ernie.

He was mesmerized. Elmo was right in front of him!

I think it's fair to say they really enjoyed the show! They did start to get a little antsy after awhile. But nothing a few snacks couldn't fix. Most of the audience was getting a bit antsy. I was really glad there was a 15 minute intermission.
Mr. Destructo sitting still and enjoying the show.
One thing I thought was interesting was that the show was about eating healthy and they were walking around selling popcorn and cotton candy, soda, and some sort of red drink (I saw lots of little red faces afterwards). Just thought it was interesting.

The boys dressed in their Sesame Street gear.

Thank you to US Family Guide for giving us the opportunity to see this show! Thank You!!

Disclaimer: We were provided 2 tickets by USFG to go and see the show. All opinions are mine and are not swayed by anyone.

The Ultimate Family Vacation! (according to me!)

Sponsored By

Cheerios® is giving you the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, your ultimate family vacation.  As part of a paid promotion for their “Do What You Love” Sweepstakes, Cheerios® is sponsoring my post today about what my ultimate family vacation would be. Read mine, Enter the Sweepstakes for a chance to actually win your own fantasy family trip or one of a bunch of other great prizes.

Hmm, my ultimate family vacation? Well I think that would depend on how old my boys are when we take this Ultimate Vacation. Since we have just come home from vacation, it is all fresh in my mind. Having boys aged 1 and 2, vacation was hard! I'm not gonna lie.

I guess it's time to drift off into dreamland for a few minutes. Would you like to join me?

Assuming money was no object, I think going on a vacation to say Disney World when they are 5 and 6 would be pretty awesome!
We'd stay in one of the fancy Disney theme resorts for sure! The Disney Animal Kingdom Villa in Kadani Village would be awesome! The amenities in this place are amazing! Having a Savannah view room would be sweet! Blue Eyes and Mr. Destructo are animal lovers and I can only imagine how excited they would be to see giraffes wandering around in front of their eyes!

We'd probably have to stay awhile just to do all the things they have at the park. It would be great to get some pampering for my husband too at some point. Don't let them fool you, guys like to be taken care of too! Not manis and pedis but a nice massage or a soak in a jacuzzi would be perfect for him! \ He works pretty hard for us to have a pretty great life, he deserves that!

Also, I heard that dining with the characters is a great experience. Something like Chef Mickey's would be pretty cool! Mr. Destructo loves "mick mouse"! We would definitely have to do that too!

I also think it would be pretty awesome to renew our wedding vows at Disney. Have you seen what they can do there? Oh my!  We had a very small wedding at a local park here and only my family was there. I would love to be able to have my husbands family be able to attend! To have a beautiful dress, a fancy tux and my boys dressed handsomly would be awesome. But this post is about a dream vacation not a dream wedding. lol.

I think the boys would really enjoy Disney and my husband has never been. That would definitely be an ultimate vacation for my family! Ahh. Time to stop dreaming. The kids are up from nap time and the roofers sound like they are about to come through my ceiling. Thanks for dreaming along with me!

Don't forget to enter the  “Do What You Love” Sweepstakes, for a chance to win your own ultimate family vacation. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective, which endorses Blog With Integrity, as I do.

The Libman Freedom Spray Mop Review

A few weeks ago we hosted a party at our house. I was stressing about getting everything clean and in order. The next thing on my list of things to do was sweep and mop the kitchen. Wouldn't you know at that very moment the mail man dropped off my brand new Libman Freedom Spray Mop!? I kid you not, just in time! I was hesitant to use it right then since I didn't know if I would have to assemble it, find batteries or figure out how to use it. I was in a hurry!

I don't know why I worried so much!

The mop came already assembled. Sweet!

I can use any kind of floor cleaner I want! I used some of my regular floor cleaner the first time, but I've also used water to do a quick swipe. You can also use any sort of "green" cleaner that you want. I really like that I don't have to purchase a special refill bottle. Those can get expensive over time. The bottle was really easy to fill, just pop the top and fill. Really, it was easy.

There are no batteries at all. YAY! I didn't have any batteries and I surely didn't have time to go find some as I was prepping for our party. It's just a simple pull trigger. So easy I caught Mr. Destructo who is 2 spraying water all over the place at one point.

After I was finished mopping the floor, I looked at the bottom of the scrub pad and it was really dirty. I guess that means it worked at picking up the dirt off my floor. I like that I can just throw the pad in the washer! Libman says it can be machine washed up to 50 times. That is much better than having to buy refills all the time. Not to mention better for the environment.

***Insert photo of yucky nasty scrub pad. I'm all about full disclosure, but you don't want to see that!***

I also think the price is reasonable. It retails between $19.99 and $24.99. Not to bad if you consider that you can use any cleaner, the reusable pad, and no batteries. You can also get a $5 rebate form from their website here.

I really liked the Libman Freedom Spray Mop and I think you would too!

Disclosure- I received this product free from Libman and I am a reviewer for the Mom Bloggers Club.

Johnson's Natural Review

When I was accepted to be part of the Johnson's Natural blog tour, I was so excited! I have always used their baby shampoo and Head to Toe wash on both of my kids. When I heard about them going natural I was more than excited to try it out!

The JOHNSON’S® NATURAL™ product line is the only line of baby skin products that is at least 98% natural with 100 years of baby care experience. Every ingredient used in our JOHNSON’S® NATURAL™ line of products meets or exceeds the guidelines set forth by the Natural Products Association.* And of course, every JOHNSON’S® NATURAL™ cleanser contains our gentle NO MORE TEARS® formula.
We received 5 different things to try.

1. Johnson's Natural Head to Toe foaming baby wash (98% natural)

I liked how easy it was to keep the kids seated in the tub and still be able to pump out soap.
One thing I learned is that it doesn't do well on a sponge. It worked best on a wash cloth or my hands.

2. Johnson's Natural baby lotion (99% natural)

I liked that it wasn't greasy feeling and that it doesn't take much to really moisturize the skin. I'll confess that I've used it on me more than my kids. Shhhh don't tell. It also comes in a squirt bottle. There isn't anything I didn't like about this one.

3. Johnson's Natural baby shampoo (98% natural)
I thought the shampoo worked great and lathered well. Just watch out! It comes out fast!

4. Johnson's Natural Kids 2-in-1 Hand and Face foaming wash (98% natural)
I had never tried something like this from Johnson's before. I put it up at the bathroom sink for my potty trainer to use. I liked that it foams and so did he. We also used it to quickly wash their faces after messy meals. The boys like the pump action and I found Mr. Destructo in the bathroom a few extra times this week.

5. Johnson's Natural Kids 3-in-1 Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash (98% natural)

Talk about easy to use and fast! I liked that I could have Mr.Destructo and Blue Eyes quickly stand up and I could wash them from head to toe with out having to open 2 or 3 different bottles.

Overall I really like the new Johnson's Natural products! It has a light scent and the pump bottles were easy to use for me. However, they were also easy for certain little toddlers to use when it was NOT bath time. Luckily the few seconds they had the pump wasn't a complete disaster like it would have been with the flip top lid. Whew! The price of the new line isn't a budget buster either. It seems that quite a few "natural" products cost quite a bit more. But that is not the case with this. (Plus sometimes you can get a coupon for Johnson's products.) I would definitely recommend the Johnson's Natural products to any mom and it would make a great affordable gift for a new mom! Two thumbs up from me!

"I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by  Mom Central on behalf of Johnson’s and received the products necessary to  facilitate my review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me  for taking the time to participate."

Baby Dipper Bowl and Utensils Review

A few days ago I had Blue Eyes in his booster seat munching away on some Cheerios and I was helping Mr. Destructo finish washing his hands so he could join us for breakfast. Then I heard the distinct sound of the bowl of Cheerios land on the floor and an innocent "uh oh" come from my little boy. I sighed because it was way to early to start this. I know he didn't mean it, sometimes they just knock the bowl in the floor. In the back of my mind I was thinking "why didn't you just wash the Baby Dipper and give him that?!"

**Kicking Myself**

What is this "Baby Dipper" I referred too? Well it's an awesome Mom-Invented, very handy, wonderfully useful food dish! Here let me show you!
A little side note right quick, the utensils are VERY durable!! You can see the spoon is a bit scuffed on the handle. Yep, it took a trip through the disposal. Whoops. I was very impressed how well it survived!!

The Baby Dipper Bowl is  triangular shaped and sloped towards one point. It helps all of the food pool in one area making it easier for moms to feed their babies with one hand or for toddlers to self feed easier.

The base is made of non-slip material to help prevent sliding. If you've ever had to feed a child with one hand while you attempt to eat your own food, you will understand how nice it is not to have things slipping and sliding away.

It's made of a blue see through plastic that doesn't have all that BPA, lead and other yuck-o stuff. It is safe to be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher, but I've never run it through the dishwasher. We only run the dishwasher every few days and I use this bowl almost every day. It's also microwave safe.
We have tried all sorts of foods in this bowl. We've done applesauce, fruit chunks, cereal, yogurt, crackers, and veggies (perfect for peas!).

Blue Eyes had his Occupational Therapy evaluation last week and the therapist saw the Baby Dipper on the table and she is so excited to use it in his therapy! She really thinks it's going to help him learn to self feed. (I'll update again when she has used it to tell you all what she thinks.)

  • No slipping and sliding. Love that it's easy for my toddlers to use.
  • Easy to clean.
  • Utensils fit well in their palms and have a special grip.
  • Snack sized. At 4 oz. it's a good size for snacking.
  • Durable. Utensils held up well in the garbage disposal.
  •  A little small for meals. It holds 4 oz. which is great for young babies, but as toddlers it's more of a snacking size. It's not really a big deal to me.
Buy It:
You can purchase the Baby Dipper Bowl set with a spoon and fork on their website! The great news is that the price has just been reduced down to $9.95 for the bowl, spoon and fork! It's also sold in some retail stores and also some online stores. You can check out which ones here.

At under $10 I think this would make a great baby shower gift for that expecting mom!

Make sure you follow Baby Dipper on Facebook, Twitter, and on their blog to stay up to date on all the happenings!

I'd love to know if you have one of these or if you buy one!

Disclaimer: I was given this set to review on this blog. My opinions are all mine and have not been swayed by anyone. I'd like to thank the wonderful mom of 2 sets of twins, Mrs. Barbara Schantz, for inventing this and giving my family a chance to try it out!

Target Clearance!

Target is having their Toy Clearance sale going on right now! I've always been jealous of what some people find at their Targets while my Target has been picked over and has hardly anything good. Not today however! Today I scored what I think to be a jackpot! I picked up a birthday and a Christmas gift for Mr. Destructo today!

I found a V. Smile TV learning System originally $40 on sale for $10! The only thing I worry about this is that I won't be able to find extra cartridges since they have since come out with the V. Motion. But even if he only plays with whatever comes with it, then I think it will be just fine!

I also found a Fisher Price Computer Cool School. It was orignially $55 on sale for $13! Brian has shown an interest in my computer lately so I am hoping he will like this and leave my keyboard alone! This one was opened once, so I took it out during nap to make sure all was intact and played with it for a bit! He's gonna like it, I think.

Head on out to Target and see what you can find, come back and tell me what you find!

Keeping the house cool is hard!

I absolutely, positively, hate strongly dislike (my momma taught me not to say hate) the 2 skylights we have in our living room! They have been trouble ever since we moved in! Starting with a leak the very first day we bought the house in the middle of the November Nor'easter. I hate them the most when it's incredibly hot (116!?) and the sun shines right down on this part of the roof. If I had my way I would take them out and install solar panels. It gets so much sun we could power the whole house. Anyways, back to what I'm trying to tell you.

We could have gotten some fancy skylight shades. They are remote controlled, fancy, pretty, oh and EXPENSIVE!!! At $148 for 1 that was NOT in our budget.

Here is our budget way to fix our skylight issues. We had to keep the heat and light out and we had to do it right that minute. There was no time (or money) to go get something fancy. Time to use whatever we had around to get the job done!

We had picked up some Reflectix at Lowes a few days back to put up in our attic. It looks and feels like a double layer of bubble wrap coated in foil on teh front and the back. It's light weight and flexible. It was about $15 for a roll. And we used a roll of duct tape, although foil tape would have been better. We used about half of the roll. It easily cut with a pair of scissors.

Hubby measured the length and the width of the skylight and cut the Reflectix to the right length. We had to tape two pieces together to get the right width.

Once we got it together it was just a matter of stuffing it up into the skylight. It only took a few minutes and we did it while we had two toddlers under foot. It was super easy!

Now our living room is actually cool and our AC can finally keep up again! It doesn't look pretty but it works! We'll take it down once the heat is gone and let the winter sun shine in.
